Christmas lights are go.

The Christmas lights are on. In years past the lighting of the Christmas lights was a celebration with live music, special guests and a massive crowd cheering on.

That hasn’t been possible for the last two years but that didn’t stop the city from lighting up on Friday, November 19th. And for those who missed seeing it in person, Cork City Council released this video marking the occasion.

It’s worth noting that Cork is a compact city with lots of laneways and side streets (a remnant of its medieval origin) so some of the prettiest displays are found off the main streets. Make sure to have a peek down the side streets as you walk past.

Also, we’re in for even more sparkle with the arrival of the Glow Festival on 26th November. There’s a Ferris wheel! I am very excited. But we will get to that later.

So how excited are you to start your decorating? Or does it fill you with dread? And do you go wild with your decorations, or do you keep it simple? These are things I would like to know.

For more info on the lights, have a look at the Cork City Council website.
